Yash to ROKO: The unstoppable

India Vs South Africa: 3rd ODI

Road to World Cup 2027:  with Virat & Rohit the Champions.

Introduction:

India’s preparation for the World Cup 2027 has begun majestically, piloted by Virat and Rohit, the champions of One Day Cricket. Their presence, unmatched experience, and guidance continue to inspire the younger lot in the squad.

The transition phase, powered by the young players and the wisdom of the senior-most inspirations ROKO partnership, has created a positive intent within the team. The scenes outside the stadium were electrifying, and the same frenzy was witnessed inside the stadium. The jerseys in overwhelming demand by the supporters were of Virat and Rohit.

The aura of Virat and Rohit remains the heartbeat of Indian Cricket, and their current form will be a nightmare for the opposition. The presence of both Virat and Rohit in the team will always be to the advantage of Team India. Virat, the maestro, looked in pristine touch, Rohit continuing his dazzling form to script an Indian victory with the young sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal.

 The Decider at Visakhapatnam:

A competitive three-game series comes to an end, India securing a 2-1 series victory, and now wait for the T20 five-match series and the next T20 World Cup.

With the series nicely poised at 1-1 prior to the Vizag game, Indian thinktank and the Senior players Virat and Rohit were ready to take on the Proteas and win the series for India. Both the teams placed their best playing eleven to win the series.

In the pursuit of finding the right balance, Washington Sundar was substituted by Tilak Varma. However coach later agrees on a bright future ahead of Washington, being a team man who can bat or bowl as per the team’s requirement.

The pace attack of Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana continued along with Arshdeep to find the right combination. The contenders in the waiting, Bumrah (preparing for the T20 World Cup), Md Siraj, and Md Shami are toiling hard in the domestic circuit to make a comeback.

The toss luck favoured India, and KL Rahul, without hesitating, decided to field with anticipation of evening dewy conditions. India started with lots of promise, with Arshdeep doing the trick in his first over.

South Africa made a tactical shuffle that backfired — pushing the previous match’s star performer down the order disrupted both Rickelton and Markram, neither of whom looked settled

The South African innings was controlled by measured aggression, stylish shots, and elegance in execution by Quinton de Kock, who completed his seventh century against India with a solid knock of 107 runs off 89 balls.

Captain Bavuma contributed a steady 46 runs, thereby ensuring a competitive total on the wicket where stroke play is not that smooth. De Kock- Bavuma partnership of 113 runs became the most important partnership of the innings.

The Indian speedster Prasidh was unsettled in his first two overs, getting a severe beating by de Kock to shell out 27 runs in 2 overs, to come back strongly in the 2nd and 3rd call-ups, finishing with a figure of 4 for 66.

Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the Indian bowlers, with his wicket-taking deliveries and bowling on the stump to finish at 4 for 41 in his allotted overs. He took full use of the wicket and also got some turns to trouble the batters. His impressive left-arm wrist spin bowling throttled the run-flow and dismantled the middle order.

Tilak Varma, replacing Washington Sundar, couldn't do justice while bowling, and both Harsith and Jadeja weren’t that effective today.

It was ironic that South Africa was bowled out for 270 runs in 47.5 overs. Purely short by a minimum of their planned target of 330-345 runs. Breetzke, Bravis, and Bosch couldn't find their rhythm in this game.

The presence of Rohit and Virat was visible with their continuous involvement in fielding, guiding the bowlers, and also making the Captain’s job easier. Rohit, in particular, had a few acrobatic saves amusing the crowd and the teammates.

Both the senior pros also chipped in with their names inscribed in a few dismissals, with two catches taken by Virat and one by Rohit at a crucial juncture of the game.

Overall, India's fielding was much improved today.

The Chase:

The Indian innings needed a flying start with Rohit searching for a big score and Yashasvi Jaiswal to cement his position in the team after a series of failures.

It was an important phase for both the openers to continue the chase for the longest period of time, and they did it majestically. Jaiswal was a bit slow in the beginning, and Rohit, at his usual self, kept on playing some delightful shots.

Rohit charged into the bowler to hit one of them with a ball, hitting the sweet spot of the willow and flying off to the farthest part of the stadium to short-arm pulls, completing a well-deserved half-century. It was the vintage Rohit Sharma delighting the Indian supporters who had filled the ground to see the ROKO magic.

Jaiswal, though slow but could complete his maiden ODI half-century, which was badly required to regain his confidence. The extra lot of practice before the game did help Yashasvi to keep his name on the table for reckoning in this long format of white ball game till the WC 2027.

The dew slowly falling in the field made the grip weaker, and the batting looked easy. A rush of blood by Rohit Sharma skied high for a catch off Keshav Maharaj to end his innings with a well-made 75 runs, and the partnership ultimately was broken at 155 runs.

Rohit Sharma reached another landmark of completing 20000 runs in ODIs. No wonder he is at the top of the ICC chart in ODI as a batsman. His classy innings lifted the energy in the stadium.

Virat, who was once at the top, has slowly climbed once again to the number four, 32 points away from reaching the top.

Yashasvi continued to take charge and raced towards his maiden ODI hundred off  111 balls. A rare feat of scoring 100 in each format of the game.

Virat Kohli’s arrival on the stage was aptly demonstrated by the way he middled the ball and took his sweet time to make his willow do the talking. The short arm pull along the carpet, charging down to hit one over the long on deep into the stadium, was just top class, which the world watches with awe.

His form has been ceremonial from the last ODI in Australia, middling the ball, finding the sweet spot to convert the deliveries for big scores.

The excellent stuff resulted in a quick-fire  50 off 40 balls from Virat Kohli, his 4th consecutive fifty-plus runs. His arrival on the scene cleared the intent when he unleashed a few shots that evenly matched his T20 batting power. Another 100-run partnership between Yashasvi and Virat steadied the innings towards an easy victory.

A gorgeous cover drive from Virat Kohli to the rope off Nigidi, followed by another over the cover, remaining not out at 61 off 44 balls, wrote the series victory with 9 wickets in hand and 61 balls to spare.

Yashasvi Jaiswal remained not out at 116 runs off 121 balls, adjudged Player of the Match.

Highlights  from the ODI series:

 South Africa:

  1. South Africa had tried to find the best combination in the absence of Rabada.
  2. The young lot of the middle-order batters had an effective outing, which will boost their confidence in preparations for the World Cup
  3. Quinton de Kock, Markaram, and Bavuma contributed to South Africa’s batting strength.

India:

  1. Virat, with back-to-back centuries, announced his arrival on a strong note after a couple of initial failures in Australia.
  2. Rohit Sharma continued his form after the Australian series and ended the series with two elegant scores of +50 runs.
  3. Kuldeep Yadav found his rhythm, giving India solidity in the spin department.
  4. With the return of Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer back in the team from their respective injuries, the balance in the batting lineup will be envied by any other team.

The search for the right pace attack combination still haunts the Indian think tank in this format of the game. Jasprit Bumrah, who is preparing for the T20 World Cup, will have to be in the scheme of things to give India a solid start in their pace attack.

The Indian team management will also work out various combinations in both ace and spin departments in the coming ODIs to go for the right combination to lift the cup, eluding since 2011.

The Regional biases, as we have witnessed in the past and earlier days, if kept aside, there is no dearth of talent in both Pace and Spin departments to find the best available players representing the Country.

The only thing now to be seen is how the Indian coach and selectors focus on finding the right combination for the 2027 World Cup from the pool of talent available, and also after the next IPL on the cards.

Preparations by the Contenders of the WC 2027:

The test and ODI playing nations are geared up for both formats of the game for the  ICC Championships in 2027. While Australia were on a rampage against England in the Ashes series at the Gabba. Mitchel Starc, who is having a dream run with the ball, laid his hand on the willow, contributing valuable 77 runs. Joe Root, with his 40th test century, maintained his flow to continue in ODIs at a later date.

West Indies fought valiantly for a 531-run chase to end the game on a draw, not before Greaves, the all-rounder, scored 200 runs, and West Indies ended at 457 for 6. Hope the other ODI specialist scored 140 runs. Earlier, Rachin Ravindra scored a majestic 175 runs.

Global teams are clearly sharpening their blades for the long championship cycle toward 2027.

Conclusion.

The turbulence surrounding India’s dressing-room atmosphere has now calmed, as felt; however, in case the flames of differences still exist, it will not be good for Indian Cricket. The Coach has to come forward and take all along with him.  The leadership, hunger, and competitive spirit shown by Virat and Rohit have reignited India’s ODI ambitions.

Virat Kohli coming out with flying colours in the series, scoring a majestic 302 runs with two centuries and one fifty, earned him the man of the series award.

Rohit in Australia and Virat in India, with their back-to-back Man of the series, make them the most valuable players for India, without whom the Indian journey to the World Cup 2027 cannot be imagined. They are India’s most invaluable ODI assets.

Both Virat and Rohit have also planned to play a few domestic One-Day games to remain match fit. a sign of their unwavering commitment toward the 2027 mission.

With the right balance, injury management, and tactical clarity, India’s road to the 2027 World Cup looks exciting — and with ROKO at the helm of inspiration, hopes are sky-high for a long-awaited title since 2011.

One Day International series will be back with India taking on New Zealand in January 2026.

  1. Well written with details on the last ODI series that India won. The bowling combination still doesn't look settled, without consistency that someone like Bumrah or Siraj would bring to the table. Only Kuldeep showed regular wicket taking ability, others not so. South Africa did a big mistake in changing the batting order and paid the price for it with dew going against their bowlers this time.
