 Yuvi to Abhi…

Abhishek-The new Normal

The beast has arrived!

The grinding, hard work, strict regime & training, and the end result is phenomenal. This is the new boy on the block…Yuvraj’s creation, Abhishek Sharma.

Brutal hits, off the book shots, have redefined Cricket batting. What we saw in the 1st T20 International vs New Zealand, and today the waves created in 14 ball 50 just sends music to our ears.

2007 vs England

Yuvraj Singh: 50 off 12 balls

6 sixes in an over…

A new dimension in Cricket arrived..

2026 vs New Zealand

Abhishek Sharma: 50 off 14 balls

4 fours, 4 sixes

Legacy & fire 🔥 continues…

From mentor to student….

The intent & belief is passed on;

The fire is transmitted.

The passion to win continues.

Abhishek;

10 times scored 50+

9 times reached 50 in 25 balls & less

3 times reached 50 in 20 balls & less

Strike rate 195.23

86 sixes in just 35 innings.

The adrenaline rush with every 14 deliveries provided the excitement and entertainment, thereby alarming the Cricketing World on the arrival of the new Champion of white-ball cricket.

India vs New Zealand:

With focus on the T20 World Cup, the team is peaking at the right time. Batters made their intention clear from the very first game, starting from Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh, to Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav in the second game playing to their best potential. Particularly, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav made a strong comeback in the second game.

The third game was phenomenal, with India unimaginably finishing the game with ten overs to go. The onslaught by Abhishek Sharma was something that even the New Zealand bowlers couldn't anticipate.

50 off 14 balls by Abhishek reminded me of his mentor, Yuvraj Singh, who reached the milestone in 12 balls.

The power of shots, the preciousness of the willow, and the sound of the sweet spot all converged together for the hits reaching the rope or taking the aerial route over the fence.

Ishan Kishan continued his form, scoring a quickfire 28 off 13 balls. Suryakumar Yadav finished off in style, scoring 57 off 26 balls.

The other Indian opener, Sanju Samson, perished early in each of the three innings. It is high time that Sanju comes back strongly in the next games and stabilises the opening stand.

Earlier, the bowling unit led by Bumrah performed exceptionally to restrict New Zealand to 153. Ravi Bishnoi, coming in place of Varun Chakravarty, bowled beautifully.

Abhishek, with his royal touch, signed off in the post-match interview;

“I do not want to be known as a hard-hitting player scoring 20 off 10 balls, I want to be known as a great finisher like Virat bhai, one of the greatest cricketers of all time.”

Abhishek needs to further groom himself to play longer innings till 15 or 16 overs, guide or chase the score in the T20 format, to earn a name as a dependable asset for the team, rather than continuously trying to score at a strike rate of 190 or 200.

India needs to have such players also in their One-Day team, and also make the bench strength strong in Test Cricket.

Ultimate dream:

The Indian T20 team is poised to surge ahead and be at the top with some astounding performances in this series.

With Axar Patel and Tilak Varma hopefully back after their injury scare and Varun Chakravarty back, the Indian Team is unstoppable in their pursuit of the Championship fight.

Will India be the first team to win the T20 World Cup for a record three times? The cricketing world awaits the answer.

  1. The only worry with modern day heroes is how long will be their shelf life - so called sustainability with consistency over the years.
    .
    Unlike legends of yesteryears ( fav 5 and others ) and modern day legend "Roko", - the present crop , under constant dopamine spell of media glare , may find it difficult to persevere until they are strict and extremely disciplined in their life style .

    We don't want new age Kamblis to be born again - who rose like a meteor only to be cannabalised by his own self...

    1. Excellent observations. T20 Cricket is just entertainment, One Day is prelude to examination and Test match is the final examination.
