Who can be the next ROKO?
The King of Modern Era Dominance!
The passion, perseverance, patience, all put together with hard work and dedication...the end result is 'the Virat'. The fever for the T20 World Cup has now shifted to the IPL, and cricketers are gearing up to showcase their performance at the upcoming big Cricketing event.
After landing in Bengaluru, Virat Kohli sent a strong message to the whole RCB community. “Every time I wear this jersey, I’m all in. Ready for another special chase."
Arrival of Virat for IPL 2026
Virat Kohli is getting ready to carry his team on his shoulder for another Royal Challengers Bangalore Championship triumph. The Cricket fans and followers of Virat Kohli await IPL 2026 to witness the legend unleashing the incredible willow power and his phenomenal on-field presence.
"The Master of the sweet spot"
Virat was not present in any of the events concerning the T20 World Cup 2026, and his words now resonate loudly in our ears. He had mentioned after his retirement, “once I am done, you will not find me anywhere”!
IPL and ODIs now are his hunting ground, and the King has come back to rule once again! We are fortunate to see him playing in all three formats, but what next?
Who is going to replace Virat and his aura, which dominates each and every cricketing arena around the World?
Virat the G.O.A.T of white-ball cricket.
No doubt on it, Virat is referred to as the G.O.A.T in white-ball cricket with his fabulous run in dominating the formats. He leads with the title of “modern era dominance”, with his batting powers, excellent team man and powerhouse of energy & fitness. The master Sir Vivian Richards himself has appreciated the dominating factor of Virat in these formats.
Rightly, he deserves the title of being “a legend of Red ball Cricket and the Ambassador of Modern era Dominance”.
Indian Cricket is now bubbling with talented players, performers in all formats and match winners, but why does the Virat era still dominate?
The Indian Cricketing calendar is having a mix of T20s, ODIs and Test matches, but the eyes of every Cricket fan now circle around the two top upcoming tournaments, the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 and ICC WTC 2027.
India is reeling behind in ICC Test rankings with back-to-back defeats in the last bilateral Test series at home, and now needs a real revamping of the team balance. But what is the next step?
Is it the real performance in the red ball game, showcase of achievements in the prestigious Ranji Trophy tournament, or will it be centred around IPL 2026? Cricket India has lost two stars in 2025 after a sudden retirement was announced amidst the announcement of a team for the England series under the captainship of Shubman Gill.
The journey of ROKO
How do we assess and analyse this situation when both Virat and Rohit were gearing up for the test series in England?
In April '2025, Rohit Sharma spoke to Michael Clark in the Beyond podcast, “I will try my best in England, and on 7th May’2025 Rohit Sharma announced his Test retirement.
Delhi coach Sarandeep Singh said in February 2025, “He (Virat) said, 'I want to score 3-4 centuries in England like 2018 and on 12th May’2025 Virat Kohli announced Test retirement.
Isn’t it speaking of some factors beyond Cricket? Let us not debate and respect their decisions and remember those beautiful moments which both of them have presented before their innumerable supporters and fans over the past decades.
The geniuses retiring from the T20 International arena in 2024, post-winning the World Cup, and shortly after in 2025, they retired from Test Match, had created a big vacuum. The dressing room, the cricket ground and the 22 yards, the ruling field of ROKO still misses them, but the game moves on, so is the legacy.
2026 and the road to 2027- Cricket India
The tentative schedule of the Indian Cricket team in 2026 has a lot of challenging series and games in all three formats. The presence of Virat and Rohit in ODIs makes a great combination of legends and youth together, and the new look Indian team will play like the Champions to remain at the top of the ICC ranking in the white ball format.
The vulnerability in red ball cricket continues with the team not finding the right balance. The batting orders in different games, pace bowling combination and depending more on all-rounders (visible in all formats) have resulted in the debacle and losses after the successful England series.
The crucial batting position at number 3 has been marred with controversies in the coach trying with as many as 8 players in different formats, whereas Virat Kohli, the ace batter at number 3, continued in the same position for so many years in T20I Cricket.
The sooner we select the desirable players in different slots, the better it will be for Team India.
The Commercial aspect which rules @ Virat Kohli
With IPL 2026 knocking at the door, fans going crazy to see their stars once again after the big happenings in T20 World Cup 2026 and above all the return of two stars in this format Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, While Virat is at his best getting ready for the tournament on the other hand call for Rohit Sharma rises for not using him as an impact player.
Very well knowing the mindset of the Indian think tank and team management, the team selection in all formats will revolve around IPL T20 games, both Virat and Rohit are waiting to prove their presence.
The RCB fans have gone crazy to buy the Virat T-shirt at a very high price, knowing fully well that they will have only five games at home. The commercial aspect of Cricket rules any day, and when T20 Cricket with Virat in the frame, the value has soared multifold.
Even to fulfil their commercial terms, it is learnt that New Zealand has requested 5 ODIs in their Cricket schedule of October-November 2026 in place of the planned 3 ODIs. The craze is more and maximum in order to have Virat playing all around and Rohit Sharma as his able partner in the field.
The Cricketing World awaits 100 centuries of Virat Kohli....15 centuries to go till the end of the ODI World Cup 2027, and with as many games required left to perform, the wait seems to be full of optimism and prayers for the great player, whose aura is defined, and nobody can take it from him.
**Cristiano Ronaldo is now 35 goals away from the big landmark, and Lionel Messi has reached the magic figure of 900 goals.
Conclusion:
While it is being mentioned that the team is above the individual, scoring of century for personal milestones is not the order of the day. But when it comes for Virat Kohli, how can we forget his sacrifice for 100s be it in either the ever crucial games against West Indies scoring 99 runs in 2013 or 95 runs against New Zealand in 2023 in white ball Cricket or be it scoring 96 runs against South Africa in 2013 of 97 runs against England in 2018 in Test Cricket.
The World rotates around those individual achievements that win the game for their team, and Virat Kohli remains one of the best when it comes to winning it for India. The chase master is already a legend in all formats.
Virat Kohli remains the fittest player in the current Indian contingent and can compete with his juniors in all formats, but he has chosen only one format to establish the superiority of his team and the Nation to win the World Cup, which has eluded India in 2023.
Virat, the member of the ODI World Cup-winning team of 2011, is again present to do it for India in 2027, along with his most able and true partner Rohit Sharma. The ROKO combination is required to rule Indian Cricket for one last time in ODI championships till 2027.
Can we expect one more time, one more year for Virat Kohli to be in the Championship mode in the 2028 Championship trophy? Only time will tell his plans. Any Cricket lover will like to see Virat performing in the 2028 Olympics, the only medal which has eluded him till today.
Keep playing, Virat Kohli.
Who can replace the Virat Kohli aura?
Who will be the next ROKO?
Readers may have different opinions, but the question remains in every Cricket lover’s mind, "Who will be the next"?

It's really very difficult to say the replacement of ROKO, at this point of time. Both of them were legends. Although, the younger generation is good but we have to see the consistency but, I am hopeful, till then I keep my fingers crossed π€
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely..nobody is indispensable...Young players will come, but the aura of Virat and ROKO will remain forever.
